Since 1973, Multnomah County Library has housed a regional collection for the Foundation Center, which was chartered as an educational corporation in 1956 by the Board of Regents of the State University of New York. The Foundation Center is a nonprofit organization concerned exclusively with gathering, analysis and dissemination of information on philanthropic foundations. Foundation Center national libraries are located in New York, Washington, D.C., Cleveland, San Francisco and Atlanta, and over 200 regional collections are in libraries throughout the United States.
